Boating Safety – Why Monitor the Weather?

This video was shot as Hurricane Michael was moving through bass pro Shaw Grigsby’s home state of Florida. Shaw stresses the importance of boaters to constantly monitor the weather, as it poses a significant safety hazard in the form of lightning, powerful winds, destructive waves and reduced visibility.

Although weather-related phone apps are handy and necessary, Shaw adds an additional line of defense with SiriusXM Marine weather on his Lowrance HDS Carbon 12. It allows for real-time weather monitoring via satellite even outside of cell phone range so you can stay ahead of the fastest moving storms on your multifunction display (fishfinder/chartplotter). Bottom line, always keep up with the weather while you’re out fishing and boating — it saves lives.
