Marine electronics juggernaut Garmin announced the launch of its LiveScope 2 Series, marking the next generation of its live-scanning sonar technology. As you probably know, Garmin’s LiveScope allows anglers to see real-time views of fish, bait, and structure around the boat.
The updated lineup introduces three new transducer models that feature increased resolution, expanded sonar coverage, and a redesigned installation process that completely eliminates the need for an external black box module. This updated technology provides anglers with real-time imagery beneath the water, offering significantly improved target separation and reduced display noise.
Garmin’s LiveScope 2 Series introduces several technical upgrades designed to provide clearer imaging as fish and lures move through the sonar beam. Key updates to the system include up to a 20% increase in resolution overall and up to 50% more detail at closer ranges compared to previous generations. Additionally, built-in image stabilization and noise reduction software smooth out the sonar feed in rough waters, while expanded angles improve the coverage across all three viewing modes: Forward, Down, and Perspective. Faster processing speeds and low latency also allow anglers to see real-time fish reactions so they can time their hooksets more precisely.
Garmin’s Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing Susan Lyman noted that the system builds on its predecessor’s foundation by providing clearer target separation at both short and long ranges, giving anglers both a cleaner setup and more space on the boat.
“LiveScope revolutionized the way anglers approach the water by giving them a real-time view of what’s happening below the surface,” said Lyman. “LiveScope 2 builds on that foundation with clearer target separation at both short and long ranges.”
Different Transducers for Different Fishing Styles

To accommodate different fishing environments and styles, Garmin is releasing the series across three distinct hardware models. The standard LiveScope 2 (LVS44) is designed for open-water scouting, delivering 20% more resolution and a 25% increase in range that allows anglers to scan out to 250 feet from the vessel.
For short- to mid-range casting up to 125 feet, the LiveScope 2 HD (LVS42HD) is optimized to offer maximum detail at closer ranges.
Finally, engineered specifically for cold-weather environments, the LiveScope 2 HD Ice Fishing Transducer features a flexible, freeze-resistant cold-water cable and a convenient all-in-one power and network cable bundled with a zero-degree shaft mount.
Easier Installation

A major hardware shift for the LiveScope 2 Series is eliminating the external black box, allowing the transducers to plug directly into compatible Garmin multi-function displays (MFDs) and a power source to simplify installation. The transducers feature automated utility sensors, including an onboard water temperature sensor and a built-in water sensor that automatically deactivates the sonar beam when the unit is lifted out of the water to protect the equipment. For added convenience, each unit ships with a trolling motor barrel mount and an adjustable Perspective mode mount so anglers can easily switch viewing angles on the fly without any tools.
The new series integrates into the existing Garmin marine ecosystem, supporting accessories such as the Spy Pole mount for independent sonar control and the GT360UHD transducer for a combined live and 360-degree view around the vessel.
The LiveScope 2 Series is available immediately, with suggested retail prices ranging from $1,999.99 to $2,199.99.
