VMC Weedless Neko Hook Review

VMC Weedless Neko Hook is a great hook for wacky rigging, neko rigging and even finesse swimbait fishing.

Great hook points on the hooks

The VMC Weedless Neko Hook features a great point that works really well with just a straight pressure set. This is an extremely zoomed in shot of a No. 2 light wire hook.

Works for wacky, neko and even drop shot and finesse swimbaits

I have experimented with the VMC Weedless Neko Hook for wacky rigging when I was skipping Senkos under docks in the spring, and bright colored Trick Worms around shallow cover in the post spawn and even with a Neko Rig out deep on stumpy ledges. I’ve also used it on a drop shot rig fished in standing timber on Table Rock Lake and even played with belly weighting swimbaits and putting them on this hook in the nose to give me a finesse swimbait with a weedguard I could fish around cover in ultra clear water. But day in and day out it’s going to really shine on a neko rig and a wacky rigged plastic fished around shallow cover.

Caught lots of fish on it already

We have caught a bunch of bass on the VMC Weedless Neko hooks since early this spring and the hook up and ability to come through cover have been pretty remarkable.

I’ve fished it a lot on spinning gear and 20-pound braid with 8-pound fluorocarbon leader and some on baitcasters with 12-pound fluorocarbon. Both setups hooked up well with this hook.

Welded eye for durability and light line applications

The VMC Weedless Neko Hook features a welded eye that holds the weedguards in place as well as rounds the hook eye out so there are no sharp edges which is especially helpful with light line applications.

3 degree offset for better penetration

You might not notice unless you see a really close up picture of these hooks, but the VMC Weedless Neko Hooks feature a bend in them that forces the hook point to stick out about 3 degrees from the shaft. This slight adjustment is something many pro anglers have done to soft plastics hooks to cause them to catch easier when a fish bites and they set the hook with light gear.

Customizable weedguards

Obviously the stand out feature on a weedless hook like the VMC Weedless Neko Hook would be the weed guards. The Weedless Neko Hook features two 50-pound strands of fluorocarbon that can be bent and curved into place. You could cut them a little shorter if you wanted to make them a little stiffer and able to resist cover a little better. But for the most part, I have left the weed guards as is and just spread them apart a little further or bent them down a little closer to make them easier to manage and fish through flooded cover.
