It seems as if many anglers are on a never-ending quest for good fluorocarbon fishing line. I’m one of those folks, too—but I’ve found a core group of fluorocarbon lines I like to use and it’s tough for me to change. One of the fluorocarbon lines I use when I fish tournaments and guide fishing trips is Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon. It’s a significant improvement over their original fluorocarbon and I’ve been using it for a long time with solid results. 4 things about this line have really impressed me.

  • Extremely strong
  • Very low stretch
  • Handles well
  • Competitive price point

It’s some seriously strong fluoro

Vicious Pro Elite is tough as nails, which is why I choose to use it a lot around when power fishing near heavy cover and finesse fishing around rocks. Whether I’m flipping a creature bait into thick log jams or casting a shaky head to deep pea gravel shelves, I’ve found this line to be a bona fide workhorse. There have been many instances where I’ve pulled bass over 4 pounds over logs and through the air with no problem whatsoever.

The abrasion resistance of Pro Elite is outstanding as well. I love to fish rocks and I’ve been pretty amazed at how infrequently I have to check the line for nicks and cuts. I still recommend checking it every 10 to 15 casts, but it has given me a lot of extra confidence in hairy situations.

Doesn’t stretch a lot like many fluorocarbons

Many fluorocarbon lines stretch almost as much as monofilament. This isn’t always a bad thing for specific presentations, but this line is excellent for when you’re looking for as little stretch as possible from a fluorocarbon. I get very solid hookups with this line due to its lack of stretch—my fishing partner and I caught 28 pounds on Lake Eufaula with this line, including a 10-pound kicker.

Due to its low stretch and durability, I’ve also started using Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon when fishing deep rocks. It transfers a ton of energy on my hooksets and stays strong around the sharp rocks.

Handles well for such stout line

When a fluorocarbon line has a good bit of stretch to it, you’re going to have an easier time casting it—that’s just how it goes. With that being said, Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon handles very well for having such low stretch.

I’ve left Pro Elite on my reels for several weeks without any significant increase in memory. I’m not too big on line conditioners, so I simply tie the line to my trailer hitch and stretch it out every few weeks. I haven’t had any problem with backlashes, memory or anything of the sort. It’s very important to maintain and care for all fluorocarbon lines and you’ll be impressed by Vicious Pro Elite if you’re diligent with it.

Great price

Vicious Pro Elite starts at just $14.99 for a 200-yard spool, but don’t mistake the low price for subpar performance—this is a killer price for great fluorocarbon line. Money isn’t easy to come by these days and with consistently competitive price points throughout their entire product line, Vicious spends a lot of time and effort trying to help the weekend angler.

If you’re looking to try some tough fluorocarbon line without emptying your wallet, I definitely suggest trying Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon, especially in areas that call for high abrasion resistance and low stretch. If you maintain it and take good care of it—as you should with every fluorocarbon—you’ll be as impressed as I was.
