Tool Holsters & Quick Stash Pockets
One of the strengths of the Plano Weekend Tackle Backpack is the exterior sleeves that allow you to keep pliers or other tools secure, but at the ready. Located on the front of the pack, two die-cut sleeves hold pliers, scissors, or other implements at a 45-degree angle so you can grab them quickly. Nearby daisy chains provide lash points for leashes to keep tools tethered while in use so they don’t end up in the drink if you drop them. You can also use them to lash additional gear such as rods or attach a rain jacket. A quick stash pocket on the side can accommodate a rod butt, and the rod can be secured using the daisy chain so it stays put on the walk to the pond.
Large Main Compartment
The large main compartment opens via a large zipper with two pulls, and has enough space to stash two 3700-size boxes. This makes it easy to take everything you need, and keep it all organized. I have stacks of those boxes in my garage, and I can just grab the relevant ones and hit the road. The back of the interior has a compartment that securely holds the two boxes so they don’t flop around as you walk, and keeps the heavy items close to your back to improve how the pack carries. A zippered mesh pocket provides a secure place for your keys, phone, or other small items. There’s also space to stuff a jacket, lunch, or a bunch of soft plastics.
Convenient Exterior Pockets
The top of the front of the pack has a quick access zippered pocket, sized right for small items like smaller leader spools, packages of hooks, split shot, or other small items. A larger zip compartment is accessed on the side, letting you get to larger items without opening the main zipper. Plano says this pocket will hold two 3600-size boxes, but I think it’s perfect for packages of soft plastics. It’s easy to access this pocket without putting the pack down; just swing it over while keeping one strap on your shoulder. All of the zippers have textured pulls for easy opening and closing.
Water Resistant Construction
The exterior of the pack is constructed with 600D polyester with a sprayproof backing that keeps the contents dry during the occasional splash or a light rain. A molded waterproof base provides a sturdy, waterproof foundation to keep gear dry on wet docks, boat decks, and shorelines. Because it is rigid, it helps keep the pack upright even when placed on rough or irregular terrain. Small, molded spikes help the pack keep its footing.
Comfortable Suspension
The Plano Weekend Tackle Backpack has a structured back panel with foam pads sections for extra comfort — you won’t feel the boxes pressing up against your back. The shoulder straps feature soft but firm padding and are easily adjusted using the covered buckles. A sternum strap aids in weight distribution and keeps the shoulder straps where they need to be. It adjusts easily for height to fit your chest using a daisy chain and T-pull arrangement.
