New Fishing Video Game To Debut This Summer

I was never big on video games, but a friend of mine had a Sega Dreamcast when we were in high school. We spent hours playing “Sega Bass Fishing” on days when we couldn’t get to the water. It was a blast, even for someone who is decidedly not a video game aficionado.

Major League Fishing (MLF) wants anglers to have that same fun when they can’t hit the lake, with the upcoming launch of MLF Pro Catch. MLF says the new competitive fishing simulator is designed to mirror the strategy and decision-making of real-world tournament angling. The game is scheduled to launch first on Steam in June 2026, with additional releases planned for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Meta VR platforms through 2026 and 2027.

Built Around Real Fishing Conditions

Unlike traditional arcade-style fishing games, MLF says they developed Pro Catch to focus on realism. Players will fish a range of environments, from freshwater lakes to coastal waters, all modeled after real-world fisheries.

Conditions within the game are dynamic. Weather patterns shift, light levels change throughout the day and wind direction impacts how fish both position and feed. As a result, players must constantly adjust their approach. This includes selecting the right presentation, managing equipment, and making strategic decisions to stay competitive. The goal is to replicate the unpredictability anglers face on the water, where patterns evolve and adaptability is key.

The game includes more than 40 fish species, each built with distinct behavior patterns based on how those species feed, move and fight. From bass and trout to offshore species, players will need to tailor their tactics depending on the target. Each fish is powered by AI designed to create variable fights, meaning no two catches play out the same way.

According to MLF, the game is designed to reflect the same competitive mindset seen on the Bass Pro Tour. Players are challenged to think strategically and respond to changing conditions, rather than relying on repetitive gameplay. In addition to solo modes, MLF Pro Catch will feature online tournaments, global leaderboards, and recurring in-game challenges. The game will also introduce live tournaments with real-world prizes, adding a higher level of competition compared to traditional fishing titles.

Realistic Environments and Game Play

Visually, the game features detailed environments, responsive casting mechanics, and a full day-night cycle. These elements are intended to enhance immersion while maintaining a focus on realistic gameplay. Each aspect of the experience, from locating fish to landing them, was designed to mimic the decisions that anglers make on the water.

MLF Pro Catch also incorporates a wide range of licensed equipment from well-known fishing brands, including Abu Garcia, Fenwick, Zebco, Lowrance, and YETI. Players can customize rods, reels, tackle, electronics, and boats as they progress through career-style gameplay and competitive events, adding another layer of depth for gear-focused anglers.

Ongoing Content and Updates

MLF plans to support the game with ongoing updates, including new locations and additional species over time. The goal is to not only keep the competitive environment fresh but also give players new challenges as the game evolves.

Additionally, MLF hopes that Pro Catch will help grow fishing as both a sport and a form of entertainment, and believes it will connect competitive angling with a broader, global audience through gaming.
