Missouri Anglers Win First-Ever Pro-Guide Batteries HOPE Classic

The first-ever Pro-Guide Batteries HOPE Classic, which benefited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, made its debut May 9. A brand-new bass-fishing tournament, the event recently brought together dozens of teams united by family, faith, and giving back, all to support a worthy cause: raising critical funds for children fighting cancer.

After a gorgeous day on Missouri’s legendary Table Rock Lake, it was the in-state team of Andrew Sell and Trevor Booth who brought a five-bass limit of 16.63 pounds to the scales for the win. The duo beat out 77 other teams to take home the victory and earn the top prize of $5,000.

“The fishing was really good today,” Booth said after the tournament. “We caught all of our fish on a cover jig tipped with a Strike King Rage Chunk fishing rocks and laydowns in the main lake up shallow.”

The team reported catching more than a dozen keepers throughout the day, adding that since the bite stayed consistent, there was never a “bite window.”

Rounding out the top three finishers were second-place team Landon Edwards and Drew Sagely with 15.33 pounds of bass, while Robert Moody and Jim Thompson came in third with 15.22 pounds. Like many of the debut tournament’s competitors, all three teams each caught five fish.

The tournament raised more than $128,000 in funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, making the pediatric treatment and research hospital the true winner of the day.

Pro-Guide Batteries representative Pete Shumacher reported that the tournament will be back again next year, bigger and better — but all for the children!
