In this video, Brandon Coulter breaks down the new Abu Garcia Revo VoltiQ reel and how it pushes reel technology forward. Right away, Coulter highlights how this reel blends digital control with real-world casting performance. More importantly, it gives anglers more control instead of limiting them. This reel was selected to our Best Baitcasting Reels for 2026 buyer’s guide.

Pro Mode Settings and Casting Control

One of the biggest talking points is the Pro Mode system. The reel includes three primary Pro Mode settings, labeled one through three. These modes briefly pause the braking system at peak spool speed. Then, the reel frees up for the remainder of the cast. Coulter notices a major difference in casting feel. At first, the reel feels unfamiliar. However, after adjusting, he finds a comfortable range between settings two and three. While some anglers may prefer lower settings, others may need more control. It is not a one-size-fits-all setup. Instead, the reel rewards anglers who take time to adjust.

Distance and Backlash

As testing continues, Coulter focuses on real-world performance. He throws a light bait on 17-pound line into the wind. Even under those conditions, the reel delivers strong casting distance without backlash. In fact, Coulter casts without using his thumb and still avoids issues. At the same time, higher settings still offer strong braking control. This makes the reel accessible for beginners. Yet, the lower Pro Mode settings unlock added distance for experienced anglers.

Digital Braking and Durability

Another key feature is the reel’s digital braking system. The system generates its own power during use. This design keeps things simple while still delivering advanced control. In addition, the reel features a sealed construction. That protection helps prevent water damage, even in tough conditions. Because of that, anglers can fish confidently without worrying about internal components.
