Every now and again I get a package in the mail that puts a smile on my face. I have a soft spot for history and where our sport came from and I love old lures. GrandDad’s Lures brings back old designs using technology of today. They strictly build topwater lures from their offices in Glen Saint Mary, Florida and blend the old with the new. Truly an American Bait Company GDL takes the best materials and handcrafts baits that look “Old School” but with the best components and paint. The two they sent me are the 4 3/4 inch DeSoto Diver in Yellow Perch(pictured on right above) and the 2 1/4 inch Popper in pearl red. (also pictured above)

Detailed 3D eyes that are inset and detail paint patterns are just the beginning.

I also love the hardware on these baits. Precise hook placement and concave hook hangers add appeal and functionality too. The paint is accented with several coats of clear to really set the bait off.

I also love the box that each lure is packaged in. They remind me of several of the old lure boxes I have in my collection that were handed down through my family. Truly a collectors piece and a great gift idea GrandDad’s Lures put a grin on this old anglers face and they too will find a place in my office next to the signed Ed Chambers WEC crankbaits and my original Bomber’s and River Runts.
