Near Record Bass Caught in Mississippi

When Jeff Foster set out to fish on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, he probably just hoped a few bass would cooperate in the 45 degree waters of Davis Lake just a bit south of Tupelo, Miss. He and his partner fished all day and only managed one bite, but it’s one he and many anglers in Mississippi that love bass fishing and beyond won’t forget.

Foster hooked and landed a trophy largemouth bass weighing 17.34 pounds, just missing the state record of 18.15 pounds. What lure tricked the monster fish was the first thing I asked. A shaky head and Zoom Trick Worm fooled the behemoth and he did it all on 8-pound Berkley Vanish line on a spinnging rod and reel.

Foster and partner had the fish weighed on two seperate certified scales at grocery stores near the lake and witnessed after contacting the Game and Fish department. What a great big bass. Congrats to Jeff on what for many is a once in a lifetime accomplishment if ever.
