According to the Detroit Free Press, one angler has been rescued while another remains missing after a scary situation on Lake Erie. The two individuals were fishing in the Bolles Harbor area when they reportedly became tangled in a commercial fishing net. The entanglement caused their fishing boat to begin taking on water.
The United States Coast Guard, State of Michigan conservation officers and multiple other local agencies responded to the scene quickly. They were able to rescue one 28-year-old man from the 40-degree waters and immediately transport him to local hospital. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries. His 56-year-old fishing partner remains missing.
It is unknown if the missing angler was wearing a PFD throughout the incident. The boat was found upside down approximately one mile offshore and according to first responders, they were fighting incredibly rough water conditions throughout the rescue and search.
