In this video, Seth Feider shows how simple frog tweaks can lead to better topwater results. With a few quick modifications—adding orange paint for visibility and adjusting the legs for action—Feider’s approach helps anglers detect bites faster and land more fish in small rivers and open-water settings.

Doctoring Your Frog for Visibility

Feider starts by brushing orange paint on the top and back of his frog using Spike-It dye. The color isn’t for the bass—it’s for him. When the orange disappears during a strike, he knows the fish has the bait fully. This visual cue improves hook timing and prevents missed chances, especially in tight river areas and duckweed-covered water.

Modifying Legs for Better Action

Next, Feider swaps the factory legs for trimmed toad-style legs. The change creates more splash and a tighter surface motion, producing a “prop bait” effect. He widens the leg holes slightly, lubricates the inserts, and keeps the fit tight to maintain balance and prevent tearing. The result is smoother skipping and more lifelike action in short-range situations.

Small Tweaks, Big Results

Feider’s quick customization improves both visibility and action, making his frog more effective and efficient. Whether fishing around grass, cut banks, or open flats, these small “doctor” details turn an ordinary frog into a reliable topwater bait that triggers more confident bites and better hookups.
