Battery Configuration
Lucas utilizes a total of five batteries:
- Trolling Motor Power: Two 36V 60Ah MillerTech lithium batteries connected in parallel, providing 120Ah dedicated to his trolling motor.
- Electronics Power: Two 12V 135Ah MillerTech lithium batteries, also connected in parallel, delivering 270Ah to support six graphs and other electronic devices.
- Cranking Battery: A traditional AGM battery used for cranking the engine, as recommended by Yamaha.
This setup ensures that both the trolling motor and electronics receive consistent and reliable power throughout long fishing days.
Charging System
To maintain optimal battery performance, Lucas employs a Power-Pole Charge system. This system efficiently charges the trolling motor and electronics batteries, ensuring they’re ready for the next day’s activities. The AGM cranking battery is primarily charged by the engine’s alternator, requiring minimal additional charging.
Performance in Extreme Conditions
Lucas highlights the importance of battery performance in extreme weather conditions. He notes that the MillerTech Sport Series batteries feature built-in low-temperature charging capabilities, allowing them to function effectively in a wider range of conditions. This reliability is crucial for professional anglers who face diverse weather conditions during tournaments.
Maintenance and Monitoring
One of the advantages Lucas appreciates about lithium batteries is their low maintenance compared to traditional lead-acid batteries. Additionally, the MillerTech batteries come with a Bluetooth-enabled app, allowing him to monitor battery health, temperature, charge cycles, and estimated time remaining. This feature provides peace of mind, ensuring all systems function properly before heading out on the water.
