Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation, recently announced the expansion of its top-tier Verado outboard engine lineup, introducing a new 425-horsepower model and an upgraded 350-horsepower version. The move intensifies competition in the high-horsepower marine engine market, aiming to set new industry standards for power and efficiency.
The two new engines, a V10 425-hp Verado and a performance-enhanced V10 350-hp Verado, are the latest offerings in a push by the company to blend high-end performance with the quiet, smooth operation that has become a hallmark of the Verado brand.
“These new V10 Verado engines reflect our commitment to giving boaters exactly what they’ve asked for: greater performance with the same smooth, refined experience they expect from Mercury,” said John Buelow, president of Mercury Marine. “With this launch, we’re raising the bar in the high-horsepower category and reaffirming the Verado family’s position as the pinnacle of premium outboard performance.”
The new 425-hp model is particularly notable for its power-to-weight ratio. According to Mercury’s internal testing, the engine is 254 pounds lighter than its main 450-hp competitor, a significant factor for boaters concerned with speed and fuel economy. The company also claims the new engine is three seconds faster from 0 to 30 mph on a 26-foot center-console boat and 22 percent quieter at cruising speeds compared to its rivals. It also features a 150-amp alternator, the highest output in its class.
The enhanced 350-hp model also boasts notable improvements, with Mercury reporting a higher top speed and faster acceleration compared to a competitor’s 350-hp offering. The new version is also said to have 40 percent quieter operation at cruise and 15 percent quicker 0 to 50 mph acceleration than Mercury’s previous 350-hp model, thanks to improved mid-range torque.
Both outboards are built on a compact V10 platform, designed to simplify installation for boats that are being repowered, particularly those originally equipped with L6 Verado or other outboards. They come standard with Digital Throttle & Shift and offer optional Joystick Piloting for improved maneuverability.
The introduction of these engines comes as the recreational boating industry continues to see strong demand. Mercury Marine, headquartered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is a major player in this market, offering a wide range of engines, boats, parts, and services under the Brunswick Corporation umbrella. The new outboards are now available through Mercury dealers and certified re-power centers.
