This legendary lure needs little introduction to many of you. The River2Sea Whopper Plopper has received extensive exposure in fishing media due to its topwater dominance around the country.

This topwater prop bait features a stationary front and rotating back prop that generates strong surface disturbance and sound as it moves across the surface. Although originally designed as a musky bait by legendary angler Larry Dahlberg, astute bass anglers saw its potential for drawing viscous strikes from bass.

We take an above and below water look (and listen) at a few different sizes of the Whopper Plopper in this week’s “What it Looks Like.” What becomes immediately apparent is its imposing profile, pronounced sputter, and mesmerizing sound. If you’re new to the Whopper Plopper, we leave it to you to make your own judgments. For those experienced with the bait, we’d love to hear your overall experience as well as favorite sizes and colors.
