Fisherman Pulls Gun Over Fishing Hole Dispute

This isn’t the type of news we like to see, but it can serve as an important lesson for all of us.

A boat with 3 adults and one small child headed out to do some fishing on Thursday, August 18th just before 8pm. As they approached their fishing destination, they encountered Thomas Mast of Pinconning, Mich. fishing by himself.

He wasn’t excited to see them.

After exchanging some words, Mast allegedly pulled out a 9mm pistol and began pointing it at the heads of the adults in the other boat. The party of four left the scene and as they were driving off, they reported hearing the sound of a gun cocking, followed by a single gunshot.

The alleged victims went straight to shore and called 911.

When troopers responded, they made contact with 54-year-old Thomas Mast. They found the pistol and one spent shell casing in his boat. He was also intoxicated (.17 BAC) and had one undersized walleye in his possession.

Mast was arrested Thursday and arraigned Friday on charges of felonious assault, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, reckless discharge of a firearm and operating a watercraft while intoxicated.
