The big swimbait craze gains more popularity each year, as these baits are responsible for many double-digit bass catches throughout the country. You’re not always going to get a bunch of bites on ’em, but the bass that do bite will usually be far above average. The patient angler can have some unforgettable days on these oversized hunks of plastic!

Our friend Dr. Jimmy Liao of Fish Code Studios has made another outstanding video explaining the effectiveness and allure of big swimbaits. In this video, he explains the anatomical similarities between swimbaits and the hatchery trout for which they’re known to imitate. Dr. Liao also explains how smaller bass are able to successfully eat such large forage while showing outstanding underwater footage of a 1-pound bass eating a 5-inch live trout.

We believe this video will help you gain a bit more confidence in this technique and teach you a lot about the ever-important “fish footprint”.
