Charlie Reed has passed away at age 78 following a bout with lung cancer.
Reed didn’t start fishing professionally until the age of 50, but despite his late start he enjoyed great success. Considered a long shot going into his first Classic in ’86 on the Tennessee River, he jumped from fourth to first place on the final day of competition. Although he enjoyed six top 10 finishes after fishing 127 B.A.S.S. events, the 1986 Classic was his only win.
He is survived by his wife, his son and two daughters.
