Drop shot rigging excels in clear water but requires some rigging considerations to shine around cover. Pro bass angler Matt Lee spends much of his time on Alabama’s pristine Smith Lake chasing spotted bass and gives us two ways to prevent snagging when fishing a drop shot.

The first way is to use a hook size and shape that allows you to hook the plastic tex-posed. This is a good option around obvious cover but can limit the action of some plastics and reduce hooking percentages. An easy second solution is to bury the hook point into the nose of the plastic without exposing the hook point. This helps maintain a high hookup ratio while reducing snagging.
