Angler Arrested for Shooting Near Boaters too Close to His Lines

On Thursday, June 8, 2023, police responded to a 911 call on Crane Prairie Reservoir southwest of Bend, Oregon. Callers reported being allegedly shot at by a fisherman on the bank who, along with a few others, hollered at them for being to close to their fishing lines. One of the fishermen, then went into a tent and returned with a shotgun that he allegedly shot over the heads or in the general direction of the boaters to warn them off.

According to documents filed Friday, June 9, 2023, Nicholas Clifford Ervin Fetters of Bend, Oregon has been accused by the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office of the unlawful use of a weapon as well as recklessly endangering a person, menacing and disorderly conduct. The documents were filed in Deschutes County Circuit Court.

When the deputies arrived on scene, the launched a drone to assess the situation. They flew a drone over campers along the bank.  Fetters then allegedly shot at the drone twice. After that, deputies moved in and placed Fetters under arrest. If Fetters is found guilty of his three felony counts of the unlawful use of a weapon, he would be stripped of his right to own a firearm.
