In the last couple of years, the small Rapala BX Brat has gained a strong following due to its castability, colors, and fish-catching prowess. Many have tried to keep it a secret, due to its durability and rise rate.
That little squarebill is especially effective around grass and cover and its erratic wobble makes a stop and go retrieve especially affective for bass and other gamefish. It fishes great along rip-rap and down laydowns but works well over emerging grass and clumps of lily pads. Because it has a balsa interior and a durable co-polymer coating it’s tough as nails floats up off cover more quickly when stopped. Don’t forget those super sticky VMC trebles…..if one licks on it he is stuck and is going for a boat ride.
Rapala just introduced a new “larger” version of the Brat called the BX Big Brat that will dive a bit deeper, 6 feet, and has a larger profile than its little brother that makes it particularly effective in stained water and when the big girls are looking for a bigger meal. The Big Brat is 2 3/4 inches long, weighs 3/4 oz, and is extra buoyant due to the balsa and its size. It has a hard rolling action and deflects well off of the cover. It too has VMC durable super-sticky trebles.
We worked with Dan Quinn at Rapala and decided we needed to give 5 Wired2Fish readers the chance to own 8, yea that’s right 8, one of each color, away in our latest giveaway.
Congratulations to the winners, your crankbaits are on the way! Thanks for entering and as always, keep an eye out for more weekly giveaways from the Wired2fish guys.
