How to Clean Fish with Electric Fillet Knives | “Around Rib” Cage Method

Electric fillet knives aren’t a replacement for being proficient with a conventional fillet knife, but they make the process of cleaning fish faster, easier and produce superior cuts for most anglers. Professional fishing guide, Tony Roach, shares his method for cleaning fish with electric fillet knives. The process works for nearly all fish species from walleye, pike, and panfish, such as crappies, perch, and bluegills.

To start, Roach explains how he positions the fish on the cleaning table for an initial angled cut to increase meat yield. Next, he describes how to work the blades down the backbone. Instead of cutting through the ribcage and removing it later, Roach prefers saving a step by cutting around the rib cage to save time and extend the sharpness of the blades. Lastly, he walks through the process of skin removal.
