Bass fisheries such as certain TVA reservoirs (think Guntersville), the marsh lakes of Florida, or Minnesota’s Upper Mississippi River around La Crosse have vast areas of matted grass that are best fished using frogs to eliminate unproductive water. Pro bass angler Jeff Sprague applies the same concept when target casting to isolated cover like bank grass and laydowns in his home state of Texas. Instead of working the bait over great distances, he terminates his cast after working the frog past the productive cover (the strike window) and quickly casts to the next. This technique is particularly effective on overcast days around bank grass and woody cover adjacent to productive docks.
