Ripping a big, lipless crankbait through hydrilla is one of my favorite spring bass fishing techniques. While it’s a very effective way to catch bass, your success can be heavily dependent upon your bait selection. I’ve tried a lot of them and have been using the XCalibur Rattle Bait for several years for 4 reasons:
• Castability
• Unique sound
• Durability
• Color selections
Flies straight every time
One of the most frustrating things about lipless crankbaits is their tendency to spiral during casts. When these baits spin, it often tangles your line around the hooks, creating a frustrating mess.
The XCalibur Rattle Bait casts straight as an arrow, even in swirling winds. Its castability lets you fish more and waste fewer casts. Not only does it fly straight, but it also lets novice anglers bomb 50-yard casts like a pro.
Sounds much different than most
A lot of lipless crankbaits can sound the same, but you’ll notice a more high-pitched rattle with the XCalibur Rattle Bait. Productive areas on grass lakes can get pretty crowded, but the unique sound of this bait gives the bass something that they don’t hear as often. Differentiating your bait from other anglers’ is often a major key to success.
XCalibur also offers a One Knocker Rattle Bait featuring a single tungsten-lead rattle that produces a slower, more rhythmic knock than their original Rattle Bait. This distinctive sound can prove invaluable in highly pressured fisheries.
Doesn’t get hook rashes or teeth marks
I have had this particular Rattle Bait for roughly 4 years, and as you can tell, it looks like it came right out of the package. After numerous big fish and years of abuse, the XCalibur Rattle Bait is extremely resistant to both hook rash and teeth marks. If you like to throw lipless crankbaits, the Rattle Bait’s durable finish will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Awesome colors for every situation
I can’t say enough about the expansive color selection. Regardless of light conditions, water clarity or available forage, XCalibur makes a color that will meet your needs. I’ve found the Royal Shad color to be extremely effective on the Tennessee River while Royal Red has won a lot of money for me on several grass lakes throughout the country.
The unique paint schemes also aid in differentiating your bait from the hundreds of other lipless crankbaits that bass see every year. With many of the colors being exclusive to XCalibur, if you find a hot bite with a specific color, you might just have it all to yourself.
Prespawn fishing is coming fast and I suggest grabbing a few XCalibur Rattle Baits to fool those tricky transitioning bass. Priced at $6.99, they’re both affordable and effective.
