I don’t take any risks when it comes to treble hooksâI’ve definitely learned the hard way. Without sharp trebles, you’re putting yourself at a tremendous disadvantage when fishing reaction baits. I’ve been fishing a lot of my hard reaction baits with Lazer Trokar Round Bend 2X Treble Hooks and I’ve been very impressed by 4 characteristics in particular.
- Sharp
- Short shank
- Wider gap
- Strong
Super sharp
It can get pretty frustrating to have bass swat and roll on your hard baits without getting hooked. While in some instances this can be corrected by changing colors, it can also be remedied by replacing your hooks.
I’ve been using the Lazer Trokar Round Bend 2X Treble Hooks on a wide variety of jerkbaits, squarebill crankbaits and topwaters with a high rate of success. Throughout my testing, I haven’t had to set the hook aggressively to ensure a good hookup. By just reeling in my slack and simply leaning into the fish, I’ve noticed great penetration and fewer missed opportunities.
This has been especially useful on my topwater applications. All too often, bass will miss topwater baits and flat-out break your heart. I’ve noticed a decrease in missed blowups and an increase in landed bass.
Shorter shank
The shanks of the Lazer Trokar Round Bend 2X Treble Hook are shorter than many others. The compact profile allows you to use larger hooks on your hard baits without any tangling and wasted casts. I’ve been using a No. 2 for the majority of my applications and it’s been totally hassle freeâthe line doesn’t loop around the front hook during casts and the hooks don’t even touch.
The compact profile of these hooks have also been outstanding for fishing around heavy cover. I absolutely love squarebill fishing and the Lazer Trokar Round Bend 2X Treble Hooks stay close to the bait, which has let me get up close and personal with blowdowns, stump fields and grass lines with very few hang-ups.

Wider gap than many treble hooks
Many anglers overlook the importance of a wide gap on treble hooks. When you hold a monster bass, you’ll realize the sheer thickness of the jawboneâtreble hooks with smaller gaps don’t give you a very good opportunity to get a solid hook into big bass.
Fortunately, Lazer Trokar created these hooks with that problem in mind. The Round Bend 2X Treble Hooks have a lot of room between the hook points and the shank, allowing for solid hookups on big bass. Sure, many other treble hooks can skin-hook a big bass, but I’ve noticed a lot more hookups behind the jawbone with these hooks. If you hook a bass behind its jawbone, you drastically decrease the chance of a thrown hook during deep water surges and jumps.
Very strong
The Lazer Trokar Round Bend 2X Treble Hooks are workhorses. I’ve lost a lot of big bass due to bent treble hooks, but I haven’t experienced that problem with these hooks. Even if you have to take the pliers out to unhook a well-hooked bass, you’ll be able to wrench on these hooks without a lot of bending or loss of sharpness.
Priced at $6.99 per 2-pack, the cost of Lazer Trokar Round Bend 2X Treble Hooks may not be for everyoneâI totally understand. If you’re a frequent tournament angler with a big purse on the line, however, I wouldn’t hesitate trying these hooks on your favorite hard baits. They’ll get the job done and give you a lot of confidence when fighting big bass.
