Eco Pro Tungsten Money Maker Review

I absolutely love power fishing, but something strange has happened in the past few weeks. For the life of me, I cannot get a bite using any power fishing technique. No jig bites, my frog fish have been obstinate and for some reason, I can’t even get a consistent cranking bite going. Plagued by odd weather and dropping water levels, Mr. Power Fisherman has had a spinning reel in his hand for almost a month. Again, feel free to laugh at my expense””the rest of the Wired2Fish crew already is.

Joking aside, this past month has made me a better fisherman. By no means am I wearing them out, but I’ve been forced to fish outside of my comfort zone. Whenever the fish don’t bite, and I run out of ideas, I’m forced to do the unthinkable. Don’t worry; it’s nothing illegal or irrational. I am forced to break out the shaky head. Sure, I’m being over-dramatic, but love it or hate it, a shaky head puts fish in the boat when other baits simply can’t. Previously, I haven’t been aware of many fundamental differences in various shaky heads, but that is no longer the case. I am really digging the Eco Pro Tungsten Money Maker Shakey Head.

If you’ve read my review of the Eco Pro Tungsten Flick Head, you are aware that I jammed a razor-sharp hook into my thumb upon opening the package. Well guess what, folks? Mr. Graceful did it again, and good gracious alive it hurt. The Owner hooks that Eco Pro puts on their products are some of the sharpest hooks you can find. After plucking the 1/8-ounce Money Maker and 4/0 Owner hook out of my thumb, I needed to release some fury on some finicky bass.

While threading a Zoom Shakey Head Worm onto the Money Maker’s nickel titanium coil, I was pleased to see that there was no slipping or tearing of any kind. I’ve used many shaky heads in the past without good keepers, and it quickly translates into hundreds of torn worms scattering the bottom of my boat. The Money Maker’s nickel titanium coil grabs hold of your favorite plastics and doesn’t let go. When the bass are pecking at your worm and ripping it to shreds, the coil effectively holds it in place, resulting in a lot of money saved.

I fished a lot of deep brush with the Money Maker and was blown away by how easily it makes its way through thick cover. Whether I was targeting brush piles or rocks, I didn’t get hung-up one time. This is coming from a guy who can blow through a pack of shaky heads in a single tournament. Because the Money Maker’s tungsten is so much denser than traditional lead shaky heads, they are much smaller, making them easier to get in and out of tight spots. If you’re tired of annoying, time-wasting hang-ups, you may want to give the Money Maker a shot.

By far, the most impressive aspect of the Money Maker is its sensitivity. The tungsten head is also much harder than lead, and I felt everything my bait was doing. I was able to feel the Money Maker crawl over individual pebbles, submerged grass and scattered chunk rock without any problem. While it’s definitely cool to feel a bunch of cover on the bottom of your favorite fishery, it’s even better when you feel a bass slam the Money Maker.

If you fish a shaky head enough, you’ve probably lost a bass or two when they daintily swim off with your worm without ever feeling them. That doesn’t happen with the Money Maker. I felt every single bite I got, which allowed me to set the hook before the fish ever felt me. Throughout my time testing the Money Maker, I couldn’t help but wonder if I have missed fish with traditional lead shaky heads.

Finally, the Money Maker is durable, which is a big deal to me. While a lot of other shaky heads get dented and bent throughout a long fishing day, the Money Maker will look almost brand new at the end of the day. Not only does its durability save a significant amount of money, but it also gives you the peace of mind that, no matter how big the bass is, this shaky head is up to the task. I also flipped some shallow cover with the Money Maker and enjoyed the same consistent results””after some huge hooksets, the hook never bent.

Contrary to my previous belief, not all shaky heads are the same and I’m very happy that I had the opportunity to try the Eco Pro Tungsten Money Maker. Priced at $8.49 per 3-pack, these shaky heads are durable, sharp and most importantly, eco-friendly. These shaky heads are going to stay in my boat for a long time.
