Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hook Review

Bass fishing hooks aren’t the most entertaining things to read about; I’m totally aware of that. I don’t write these kinds of reviews very often for that very reason. They’re just… hooks. There are only so many things I can say about ’em.

Or so I thought.

I’ve been using the Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hooks for the better part of this past year and I’m absolutely impressed by how much they have helped my hookup ratio. To be honest, however, I was a little lukewarm on the idea of these hooks when they were first released. I hadn’t tried them yet but in my mind, I always looked at Berkley as a quality line, soft bait and hard bait company. I guess my brain just got trained to view the company in that specific bubble. But I finally got around to trying them and my gosh… what a treble hook. That’s no exaggeration, either.

Even though it’s a treble hook and not that awesome to read about, hang with me for a minute or two. I’m going to tell you why I like these hooks so much.

They are razor sharp

These hooks are no joke when it comes to their sharpness. As a self-admitted crankbait junkie, I’m constantly in my shop tinkering with baits and changing treble hooks in the evenings after supper. I’m very particular about keeping sharp hooks because bass tend to swat at crankbaits fairly often. My goal is to always turn those swats into bites.

The Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hooks are some of the ones I have to be most careful with. Whether I’m taking ’em out of the package or putting them on another lure, I always take a little more time when I’m messing with them because they are absolutely razor sharp. It they get anywhere near something, they’ll latch on and not let go.

That includes the mouths of bass.

Holding power

Lost fish are going to happen when you’re fishing with treble-hooked lures; that’s why a lot of folks avoid them. It takes a lot more patience and attention to detail when landing bass when you’re using a lure adorned with treble hooks.

I have lost exactly zero fish while using the Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hooks. I was having a heck of a time with short-striking fish this past February and March. The fish were where they’re supposed to be that time of year, but my other trebles kept coming back with nothing but a cheek scale on ’em. By the size of the scales, I could tell they were really good-sized bass.

I finally put a fresh pair of Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hooks on my plug and it was a night-and-day difference. I went from PG-13 words and hissy fits to sticking my chest out like I was something special. Although most of the bass were hooked on the outside of their mouths, these hooks grabbed ’em and didn’t let go. Almost every time a fish swatted at my crankbait while using these hooks, they were hooked and I put them into the boat. I can’t ask for much more from a treble hook.

They’ll hold up to abuse

My guilty pleasure involves catching hybrid and striped bass when I really should be bass fishing. I know most of you reading this will call ’em “trash fish” and I get it. But dang man, they sure do pull hard and if a fish is willing to pull back… I want to catch it.

The bad part about this guilty pleasure is that it absolutely destroys my treble hooks. If I run across a school of hybrids on a shallow flat, I’ll go through all kinds of trebles because they’ll get bent after a few fish catches.

That has not been the case with the Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hooks. I’ve been fairly amazed at their strength and ability to hold up to abuse from both bass and “trash fish”. I’ve caught striped bass up to 10 pounds with these hooks and they have performed wonderfully and in fact, I still have the same hooks rigged on many of my everyday-use crankbaits. If a small treble hook can withstand the pressure from an angry, 10-pound striper, I think it can handle any-sized bass without any issues.

Final impressions

If you’re like me and like to throw a bunch of treble-hooked lures, I absolutely recommend trying the Berkley Fusion19 Treble 1x Hooks. They’re sharp as a knife, they pin fish with ease and you’re not going to have to change them constantly. I have absolutely been impressed and I think you will be as well.
