Here today, gone tomorrow is the challenging reality of bass fishing during the spring spawning season. Santee Cooper native Patrick Walters explains how to find and catch bass during and after cold fronts in the spring using the Tokyo Rig and your favorite plastics.
- VMC Tokyo Rig
- Zoom Z Craw Jr.
- VMC Tungsten Flippin Weight
- Daiwa Tatula Elite Casting Rod, 7'3" Heavy Omori
- Shimano Curado 200K Casting Reel, 7.4:1
- Sufix 832 Braided Line Lo-Vis Green, 50lb
Bass usually won't vacate spawning grounds if there are cover and warmer water nearby. The warmest water is found in sun-exposed, calm areas with the presence of cover. When he finds the warmest water, Walters "plunks" key targets like grass mats and wood with a Tokyo Rig. As he explains, the rig is a harness for your favorite plastics, allowing the bait full freedom of movement and the ability to up- or downsize on the fly.
