Angler Dead, One Remains Missing after Boat Crash

This past Wednesday on Lake Lanier in Georgia, a bass boat and a large cabin cruiser collided leading to the disappearance of 38-year-old Nick Edward Schimweg and 59-year-old Brianislav Praznich. Praznich’s body has just been recovered in 33 feet of water in close proximity to the crash site.

The search for Schimweg is being considered a recovery effort at this point.

Crash details

The crash occured near Little Ridge Park and Bald Ridge Creek. Lake Lanier is known for being an extremely busy lake, especially this time of year, with giant waves made from an excess of boat traffic. There were three occupants in the cabin cruiser and they were all taken to the hospital as a result of their injuries.

Ongoing investigation

Officials aren’t yet sure which vessel was at fault. The cabin cruiser driver and passengers are being carefully questioned and both boats will continue to be carefully inspected. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is currently utilizing remote underwater cameras and sonar to search for the other victim.
