Some people call them jerkbaits, some call them minnow baits and yet others call them rip baits but we like the term “slashbait” because of their action. They slash and dart with each twitch of the rod enticing suspending bass coming out of their wintering areas priming for the spawn. Cold water conditions are prime for slashbaits and some of the best ones on the market are made by Rapala. The Original Minnow started the craze, followed by the Husky Jerk and last year, the three hook Shadow Rap made waves across the industry.
This year Rapala followed up with a two hook model that is smaller in size but big in fish catching prowess. The new Shadow Rap Shad is a great go-to bait, perfect for finicky pre-spawn bass.
