Bass can bite weird and act a bit funky in the weeks or days leading up to the spawn, through the spawn and into the post spawn. They can be skittish at times and aggressive at other times but not take a bait well.
Keith Combs has found that in this situation a finesse swimbait like the Strike King Swim’n Caffeine Shad rigged on a lightly weighted hook can be one of the best presentations for generating bites and catching fish in a spawning funk.
He talks about a few key considerations including, cover, speed and how critical recognizing missed bites can be corrected easily with a simple color change.
