It’s commonplace for temps to vary 10-degrees or more on any given body of water shortly after ice-out, and while most walleyes are shallow this time of year, you’ll often find the greatest concentrations in areas of warmer water such as shallow bays, protected parts of the lake, and in this case, man-made canals connecting to the main lake. The larger the spread between the warmest and coldest water, the more baitfish and walleyes you’ll find congregated in warm-water areas. Apply some common sense and keep an eye on your digital temperature readout at all times to find these ‘hot spots’.
