How to Build a Custom Jon Boat Casting Deck

Most jon boats come as a stripped down aluminum shell. This provides a prime opportunity to customize these light and versatile boats for specific uses such as bass fishing, duck hunting or a little of everything.

A front casting deck is a fast and easy way to greatly enhance the fishability of jon boats. It provides the angler a raised platform for better visibility, casting accuracy, and quietness. Our buddy Wayne walks through how to template and scribe a 3/4” piece of treated plywood to fit perfectly in the front of our Lund 1436L jon boat.

PRODUCTS USED:

  • 3/4” treated plywood
  • 2×4 sections
  • Saber Saw for notching around support ribs
