ICAST 2013 | Simms

The Simms booth was full of new product releases at this year’s ICAST. A few items in particular caught my eye, including the SolarFlex Guide Glove, which retails at $49.95. Designed for optimal sun protection, they seem to be extremely durable while still being lightweight. They provide UPF50 protection and have stretch fabric on the back of the hand with full coverage around the cuffs. Even better, they have very water resistant goat leather palms for increased grip. They only weigh 10 ounces and will be available in 2 sizes– S/M and L/XL.

simms-bugstopper-ls-shirt-tidal-blue-mini-plaidI also really likes the Simms BugStopper LS Shirt. If you frequently fish grass lakes during the summer, you’re well aware of how awful the gnats can get. I frequently fish Lake Seminole in Georgia and the gnats can get so thick that it makes breathing difficult. The BugStopper LS Shirt is extremely lightweight, allowing you to wear it even in extreme temperatures. It’s also treated with Insect Shield, which repels bugs to allow for comfortable fishing. The sleeves of this shirt are also designed to give you a wide range of motion, which is going to be very convenient for casting. It will be available in sizes up to XXL and will retail for $99.95.

simms-hyalite-rain-shell-pantThe Hyalite Rain Shell Pant also impressed me. During the summer, it can be pretty uncomfortable to wear a full set of rainsuit bibs when you get caught in an afternoon rain storm. These pants are totally waterproof, but very breathable at the same time. They feature 2-way side leg zippers with nylon sliders that allow you to quickly slide them over your shoes, which will help you avoid soggy socks and feet. The side leg zippers also stop at the waistband which make it easy to access your pockets and increase ventilation. Regardless of what you’re wearing underneath, whether it’s gym shorts, khaki shorts or jeans, the adjustable waist with belt loops will assure a snug fit. If you’re not into wearing a belt, these pants have an interior drawcord while also featuring adjustable Velcro cuffs for a watertight fit on your ankles. They retail at $129.95.
