Lucky Craft really opened up the Japanese bait market in the United States and this year they introduced several interesting new products at ICAST. The first bait that caught our eye in their booth was the Blade Cross. It’s a minnow shaped bait with an arm and a spinner. It’s akin to a fish head spin type configuration except with a hard bait. The bait looks like it would be a dynamite fish catcher for schooling fish.

The Flash Pointer is a slow floating jerkbait that gives you a cross between a suspending Pointer and a quick floating Flash Minnow. It’s a bit bulkier body and has three hooks on it. It will jerk and rise slowly on the pause but it’s meant to be worked in that 3 to 5 foot zone fairly quick.

The Bevy Rig is a lighter castable umbrella rig that comes in short wire or longer wire options.

The Twisted Rosie is a topwater hybrid floating lipless crankbait. It’s 3 inches long and weighs an ounce. On a jerk it is said to dive a bit and the slowly rise back to the surface with a flutter. It bubbles and darts and was actually designed by the editor of Basser magazine in Japan to fish over grass in Florida. Seemed like a crazy recipe for a cool new bait and we liked that.

The Gunfish 135 seems like a cross between a pencil popper and a gunfish topwater. It’s a big body that you should be able cast a mile at 1 ounce. It is roughly 5 1/3 inches long. We can see this being a hot bait on those blueback herring lakes in the southeast.

Brent Ehrler, Gerald Swindle (shown here) , Kelly Jordon and Skeet Reese designed several new colors for some of their favorite Lucky Craft baits. We saw several of G-Man’s colors that we really liked!

  1. Great looking bait. I have been looking for an umbrella rig I can cast more like a spinnerbait and the bevy rig just might be the one. I will be trying this rig out this spring. I have a feeling the early spring bite will be a little extended this year with the bitter cold winter we have had. We will see.
