Nuclear Nelly Perfected

A couple of years ago just before the Bassmaster Classic Berkley announced some new products specifically designed for Berkley anglers at the Classic. The Chigger Craw, the Beast and Nuclear Nelly, to name a few, were all introduced at the same time. You know the Chigger Craw story as Boyd Duckett went on to win the Classic on that bait, the Beast will have its day, but Nuclear Nelly never showed up.

As with all of the Berkley line-up nothing is brought to market without thorough testing. Because Nuclear Nelly was a GULP product and due to the unique shape and counter directional appendages they would not lay in the package correctly. Once bent or mis-shapened they would retain that shape and no longer would have the desired action Berkley had designed into this bait. The bait experts had spoken at Berkley and all agreed that they would not let them out until they would.

Well.....guess what? In 2009 a new 3" creature bait called the Nuclear Nelly will be reintroduced to the public. And again the congregation said "Amen". This is great news for the flipper and pitchers and smallmouth anglers should be thrilled as well. This is one good looking bait and is very versatile. It can be Texas rigged, fished on a Carolina rig or nose hooked for drop shotting.

Nuclear Nelly is a flat eye-shaped body running to two short appendages and a 1 inch tail that can either be left together or split to add action and determined by the angler. It is perfect for a 3/0 hook or we see it working well as a power drop shot bait as well. The bottom of the body is smooth while the top has lines designed to give it the look of a crawfish. The wings provide balance and stability for the bait and the tail provides the action. This is one sweet bait.

We almost forgot.......GULP makes this bait even better. They indeed outfish other scented baits and when a fish grabs it they think its food.

More to come

We will be reporting on even more "new" Berkley products in upcoming reviews as we near their introduction at ICAST.
