Alabama's Randall Tharp inched closer to a Bassmaster Classic berth Thursday with a 5-bass limit of largemouths weighing a whopping 29 pounds, 6 ounces at the Southern Open on Guntersville Lake. He is followed closely by another Alabama native, Matt Herren of Clay, with five weighing 26-9. Greg Pugh of Cullman, Ala., weighed the big bass of the day, an 8-3 bruiser.
