Lightning Strikes Again

Berkley is one innovative company and are know for building some of the best products in the business. They are also consumer cost conscience as well. Building products that are dependable, work as designed and do not cost an arm and a leg is their modus operendi and to date they have been very successful because of it.

In preparation for ICAST the bait junkies have been feverishly testing new products that will be showcased at the July extravaganza. It's a tough job but someone has to do it.

We recently had the chance to see and use the new Lightning Rod Shock specifically designed and engineered for Superlines. Built with some unique components including a revolutionary carbon fiber material(called 1K Power Helix) gives this rod superior backbone yet maintaining its lightness. Maximum feel is generated through a suspending reel seat. The non-dampening blank increases the sensitivity.
We also like the new split handle design that also decreases the weight of the rod and the elimination of the foregrip cork. Most anglers will instantly notice they can feel more because they can actually rest their index finger on the blank. The balance of this rod is even better than last years model.

Our tests

We tested the SHC701MH, a 7 foot baitcasting rod, perfect for braid and a lure from 1/4 to 1 1/4 ounces.

We actually found that the braid and the rod matched well and this rod was made for braid versus mono. That is a bigtime change to most rods made today and truly a differentiator.

Priced under 75 dollars this is one great bargain. Berkley has indeed hit the mark with this new rod.
