Mustad is set to unveil some new hooks that should make anglers who love to fish plastics in heavy cover super excited.
The first hook they will launch in conjunction with the Bassmaster Classic is the Grip Pin Extreme. It's a straight shank wide bite hook with a special powder coated grip pin and line tie closure that those who love to fish "junk" will jump on. The precise angle of the pin that runs perpendicular to the hook point will hold baits like Brush Hogs. beaver style baits and thick walled tubes in place and keep them from balling up on the hook point. The power coating also grips plastics and closes the line tie so braid and fluorocarbon line work more effectively.
Elite Series pro and noted flipper Denny Brauer loves these new hooks.
"I am genuinely proud of the innovation, shorter shank and sharper point, and the strength of these hooks is unmatched," Brauer said. "In testing, the percentages of hook-ups went through the roof and hook penetration was clean and precise. The keeper worked perfect. You just don't lose fish even in the heaviest of cover. You will have use your needle-nose pliers more, that is for sure."
Mustad will be announcing these hooks as well as a few others in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned.
