Springtime shallow spawn and pre-spawn bass love creature pitch baits. The Strike King Space Monkey is suited perfectly to fish heavy cover and grass and also works great as a cast bait as well. Creature baits can be tough to fish in tight areas because of the appendages but this one has the right body shape and action that works well in these conditions. Even sitting still without movement the appendages of the "monkey" move. Best fished in shallow water around root wads and grass, the Space Monkey has the exceptional action of the Rage Tails but also the body shape that gives it the proper profile for agressive yet finicky bass. It is also bulky enough to be pitched long distances and under tight cover.
The Strike King Rage Space Monkey adds a new dimension to creature baits. Plenty of action combined with a body profile shaped like Freddy the Freeloaders cigar makes it unique. The Rage Tail Space Monkey is a cross between a frog and a crawfish but the incredible action mimics different prey like shad and lizards as well. Perfect as a drop bait in dense cover the action permiates the entire water column. Four sets of rage legs with tapered claws provide action when it is hopped, dropped or dragged. Designed to displace large amounts of water, The pressure waves of this bait creates a vortex of action in front, on the sides and the rear of the bait.
We like to use heavy gear with this bait. Sixteen to twenty pound
Seaguar Fluorocarbon, 5/0
Mustad Ultra Point hooks, and a 1/4 to 5/16 ounce tungsten weight gives you the muscle to pull big fish out of heavy cover. We team it with a 7 to 8 foot rod and a
Ardent F700 reel for best results. We have been testing the new Quantum Gary Klein Flipping Stick, a
St.Croix Legend Xtreme and a
Falcon HD at the same time and each have become different tools to match the cover. Flipping stick to punch, St.Croix to pitch and the Falcon to cast.
We can hardly wait to fish the Monkey on a rig when fish move deep.
