Maryland officials have discovered zebra mussels in the Susquehanna River, and are urging boaters to be vigilant in efforts to clean boats to help prevent the spread to other waterways. Zebra mussels are invasive and rapidly-producing bivalves from the Caspian Sea introduced to the United States years ago through expelled ballast on tanker ships.
