Florida can be a fickle place to bass fish. That is the reason pro's have a love/hate relationship there. One day its hotter than a two-dollar pistol and the next day a severe cold front arrives and 30 degree temps greet anglers.
Florida strain largemouths are every bit as fickle as the weather and this weeks kick-off a the Carrot Stix PAA opener presented by Phoenix Boats is shaping up as another battle with the weather. Daytime temps today were in the 60's but nightime temps are expected to drop and be in the 30's before the event begins. Will this be a flipping event or will anglers concentrate on the centers of pockets and bays with a trap?
Anglers we spoke to today were fickle as well. Some had flipping sticks teamed with heavy weights punching vegetation while others were looking for offshore fish.
"Its going to be a battle" noted amicable Alabama pro Matt Herren. "I don't think these bass have moved up yet. I haven't seen one bed."
