Most avid anglers dream of being able to have a custom color bait made exclusively for them to use, and for one lucky angler that will become a reality this Sunday, Feb. 28, in Broken Arrow, Okla.
The Bass Pro Shops store in Broken Arrow has teamed with local soft plastic manufacturer Gene Larew Lures to provide one lucky winner, determined by drawing, the opportunity to pick any one of the Larew bass baits or Bobby Garland crappie lures and then design and name a custom color for that bait.
“I can’t say for sure it’s never been done before,” said Chris Lindenberg, Larew owner, “But it’s certainly the first time we’ve ever opened our doors to a stranger and told him or her to come on in and let’s work together to make what you want. We think it’s a really neat deal.”
All visitors to the store starting from the time it opens today (Friday) until the closing of the entries at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday are eligible to enter the drawing, with no purchase necessary. Shortly after the closing, BASS Elite Series angler Tommy Biffle will draw the winning name.
Gene Larew Lures will schedule a time with the winner to visit the factory and assist in selecting the color combination, mixing the plastic, watching the first production come out of the injection molding equipment and then naming the color. The individual will be given the first 1,000 baits for exclusive use, and then the company will add the color to its product lineup for the 2011 product year.
“Any product we make at our facility under one of our brand names is fair game for selection, and that includes hot items like the Larew Biffle Bug or the Garland Baby Shad or Stroll’R,” Lindenberg added. “We look forward to naming a winner and seeing the end result.”
Gene Larew Lures has several other pro staffers joining Biffle in the store for the weekend promotion, including football-star-turned-angler Rashaun Woods, local fishing experts Mike Taylor and George Toalson, and out-of-state crappie pros Kevin Rogers, Charlie Rogers, Bo Hudson and Brad Chappell.
