In the second season of Bass Life, professional Bassmaster Elite 50 angler Casey Ashley goes on the adventure of his life fishing for huge peacock bass deep in the Amazon jungles of Brazil. The docu-reality style film takes viewers along on Casey’s trip as he experiences his personal “dream come true” on the Amazon River.
Last weekend, Ashley competed in the Bassmaster Classic on Lay Lake near Birmingham, Ala. Although he’s competed in more than 40 professional events, Ashley is still a self-proclaimed “country boy” from Donalds, S.C., where he still lives when he’s not on the tournament fishing circuit.
In Bass Life, Ashley takes his first venture out of the continental United States, and learns how another world lives. And while he may not have spoken the native Portuguese, the common ground of fishing connected the group. Ashley had the chance to land 16 pound peacock bass, using topwater lures – much different from the largemouth bass he’s used to catching back home.
But more than just catching a new kind of bass, Ashley experienced a new way of life.
“We have access to hot showers and complain when the hot water heater goes out,” said Ashley, in an interview segment of Bass Life. “But then you come down here and see how a whole different culture lives – they’re bathing in the Amazon along with the piranhas and all kinds of other fish that could eat you.”
See more of Casey’s trip, and hear his new music single “Fisherman,” when you watch Bass Life with Casey Ashley now on Costa’s Channel C.
